“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13) The Message says, “You can whitewash your sins and get by with it; you can find mercy by admitting and leaving them.” This verse popped up on my phone the other day. The longer I mediated on it, the more I realized how lavished with grace it was.
I work with lots of people in emotional pain. As the process of progressive healing runs its course, deeply embedded lies have to be replaced with truth. For our inner person (for more on this go to my website, greglruss.com and click on blog, look to the right and click on “discovering the ‘u’ in morning.”) to operate smoothly, truth has to be the foundation. Otherwise, we deceive ourselves, whitewash our sins and wonder why mercy eludes us. You ever made the statement–that person is real! I want to encourage you to become that person! What a gift to give those in your circle of influence. We all need a good dose of daily transparency.
Lord, strengthen us to have hearts that project transparency. Help us move away from deceit and out of the whitewashing business. Empower us to be a light to show others where real peace and contentment are found. In Jesus Name, Amen.
